Determined to remain the "fairest one of all", the Queen becomes insanely jealous of her stepdaughter, Snow White, the only one whose beauty surpasses her own. The Evil Queen, also known as the Wicked Queen, Queen Grimhilde, Evil Stepmother, or just the Queen, is a fictional character who appears in Walt Disney Productions' first animated feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) and remains a villain character in their extended Snow White franchise. 

She is based on the Evil Queen character from the 1812 German fairy tale "Snow White". The film's version of the Queen was created by Walt Disney and Joe Grant, and originally animated by Art Babbitt and voiced by Lucille La Verne. Inspiration for her facial features came from Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, and Marlene Dietrich. The Queen also appears in several movies, musicals, games, video games, literature, comics and even in Disney World and Disneyland rides. She is also the inspiration for the Descendants Evil Queen (played by Kathy Najimy), the Evil Queen and Mayor in Once Upon a Time (a Disney series appearing on ABC from 2011-2018) played by Lana Parilla and Queen Narissa in Enchanted played by Susan Sarandon. 

Most recently she is portrayed by Gal Gadot of Wonder Woman fame in Snow White, the 2025 live-action reimagination of the 1937 animated film.
